Garage Floor Preparation

Why preparation matters more than the coating itself

Most coating failures come down to what happened — or didn't happen — before the coating was ever applied. Here's what proper preparation typically involves.

01

Surface evaluation

The slab is checked for moisture, existing coatings, cracking, and overall condition to inform the right approach.

02

Grinding / profiling

The concrete surface is mechanically profiled so the coating has a surface it can properly bond to.

03

Crack treatment

Cracks are addressed where appropriate as part of preparation, depending on their size and cause.

04

Cleaning

The surface is thoroughly cleaned to remove dust and debris before any coating is applied.

05

Coating application

The chosen coating system — epoxy or polyaspartic — is applied per its process.

06

Cure time

The floor is left to cure for the time required by that specific coating system before regular use.

Every garage is different
